Mine gas pretreatment and pressure regulating systems
Mine gas is wet, dusty and low-pressure. We pretreat and regulate it so gas engines get a clean, stable fuel supply. Each system is engineered per project — there is no standard model range.

What the reference project did
For a 10 MW coal mine gas power generation project in Indonesia we supplied a pretreatment system and pressure regulating skid that removes moisture, dust and impurities from coal mine methane before it reaches the internal combustion generator sets.
Process
- Cyclone separator for bulk particle removal
- High-capacity wire mesh demister for fine droplet separation
- Large-diameter self-operated gas pressure regulator reducing 0.05 MPa to 0.02 MPa without external power
- Pre-assembled, factory-tested skid for reduced on-site installation time
- Reusable filter elements and a bypass valve so maintenance does not interrupt gas supply
Engineering background
The company holds a Chinese invention patent for a mine gas safe blending system and blending ratio control method (see Certifications).
Applications
- Pretreatment for mine gas engine power generation: Through treatment such as filtration, dewatering and pressure regulation, the incoming gas is brought to the fuel requirements of the engine.
- Fuel preparation for mine gas boilers: Gas treatment and delivery systems are configured to the boiler inlet conditions to meet fuel supply needs.
- Gas supply to gas turbines and microturbines: After gas quality compatibility has been evaluated, the pretreatment targets and supply conditions are determined according to the unit's requirements.
- Pressure boosting and conditioning before mine gas transmission: Treatment equipment is configured for the transmission pressure differential and the water and dust content of the gas, providing suitable conditions for subsequent transmission and utilization.
- Utilization of drainage gas from producing or closed coal mines: The treatment scheme needed for power generation or heating is evaluated according to the recoverable gas volume, gas quality and its range of variation.
- Safe blending of low-concentration mine gas: A dedicated blending, monitoring and interlock system is configured for the specified concentration range and utilization method, and designed according to project conditions.

FAQ
Is mine gas pretreatment the same as methane purification?
No. Filtration, dewatering and pressure regulation mainly improve the condition of the gas before it enters downstream equipment; they do not mean that nitrogen is removed or methane purity is increased.
Why do some systems need pressure boosting and others pressure reduction?
It depends on the incoming gas pressure and the pressure required downstream. The design should also consider pressure losses in the piping and treatment equipment, and the effect of gas volume changes on supply conditions.
Is the coolant temperature the same as the mine gas dew point?
No. Coolant temperature, outlet gas temperature and mine gas dew point are different parameters; a dew point must also state the corresponding pressure condition.
Why must the engine inlet gas quality requirements be provided?
The downstream equipment's requirements for moisture, particulates, composition and pressure determine the pretreatment targets. The generating capacity alone is not enough to determine the complete configuration.
Can biogas or landfill gas treatment equipment be used directly for mine gas?
It cannot be directly substituted. The gas composition, contaminants, flow range, pressure and treatment targets must be rechecked before judging whether the equipment is suitable.
Can ordinary gas blending parameters be applied to low-concentration mine gas blending?
No. Monitoring, blending control and abnormal-condition interlock requirements must be determined separately, based on the actual concentration range, fluctuations in the incoming gas and the downstream use.
